Since I am not the most punctual person and I have decidedto work on this personal shortcoming, I have a new found attraction to watches!Every problem has a fashion solution, so here are a few watches...

Wood Watch-I have had this watch for a while, 3-4 years. I dropped itand broke the covering of the face but it still works. I bought it in Ithaca,NY while visiting one of my best friends at one of the stores in IthacaCommons.

Bling & Stone- I have had this watch for 3-4 months froma local jewelry designer and independent jewelry retailer, Millie P’s. I lovewatches with hidden faces. If the watch stops working, it can double as abracelet.

Bling Watch – This ismy absolute FAVORITE watch. I know it’s a bit much to wear on a regular basisbut I don’t care, I rock it whenever I feel like it! (Another purchase fromMillie P’s )

This weekend was fabulous! Ready Set DC provided three distinct fashion events, the Designer Meet and Greet (drinks and music included) , a full length runway show, and an opportunity to shop the local designer wares.

I made it to Friday's Design Meet and Greet, a mash up of designers (i.e. Somaphony, Art Aya,) bloggers (i.e. MyLifeStyleMude, Flygirls), fashionistas and artists.

I missed out on the Fashion Show :-( I had a personal commitment to honor but check out MyLifeStyleMude, they did a cool event and runway recap! I also made it the Shops on Sunday at the Dunes and finally purchased two pieces from Art Aya to add to my collection:a Handmade magazine cluster necklace with sterling silver chain and closure and another interesting multifunctional piece that is currently under construction:-) My friend scored a necklace from pretty people vintage. Since I was in the city, I headed down to H and M to pick up a few black, white and red pieces for the wardrobe. I am feeling this color scheme right now!

ArtAya & Art All Night Sep 24,2011

On September 24th, the Nation's Capital hosted Art All Night DC, a re-styling of public spaces to incorporate art with all events free to the public.

I attended the fashion show of desinger Dana Ayana Greaves. Her line is called ArtAya. The show was held at the Shaw Library in NW DC. She always comes up with interesting concepts. This show was really a set of mini-shows that lasted 10-15 minutes. For each mini-show, the pieces were styled in a different way by stylist Brooke Kao. This way all guests could see the pieces AND see the different ways they could be worn!

Today, I had a long but fulfilling day preceded by a special event weekend. It made me remember the simple joys of life, good friends, good family, good food, and taking the time to reflect on the good "stuff" going on in my life. Power is Back!

Baltimore Gas and Electric hooked me back up to the grid. Now I can stop carrying the flashlight around and get back on the wireless at home!!!!! Thankfully I have wonderful friends who provided me shelter from the darkness and lack of hot water.

So my work attire for Tuesday was my standard black and white combo with a little bling (earrings and necklace). I promised I would be work appropriate. Black & white is easy to coordinate by flashlight.

With the lights back on, I found the outfit to witness my girl tie the knot this weekend!

Irene has come and gone from the DMV (DC,Maryland, VA). As of 6 pm today, I am still without power.

Even in gloomy weather you can still incorpforate style. When I ventured out on Saturday for food, wine ( essential for any looming disaster), water, batteries, and a good book, I got a chance to don my rainboots and favorite edgy, girly, comfy sweatshirt. So....I tried to stay away from style and fashion. I tried to be the straight laced person an engineer "should" be. I shied away from being my whole true self which encompasses sexy, smart, and stylish facets. I am back!!!! I am here to chronicle and share my adventures in shopping, designing, decorating, and creating to become the ultimate sexy, smart, stylish icon.

Rule #1) Be happy and healthy!
No matter what you do on the outside, if you are not taking care of yourself physically and mentally, that nastiness and negativity will permeate and become your second skin or one of your everyday accessories . No amount of clothing and makeup can help that.

Today, I felt a little frisky so I wore a dress a little shorter than I would normally wear to work but I felt great in it.

I love a fitted blazer with stretch. It can be worn so many different ways, a staple in the wardrobe!

Dress: United Colors of Benetton, Polyester, purchased at United Colors of Benetton about 1 year ago at Arundel Mills Mall.

I cinch it with belt to give it a waistline.This dress makes me feel like I am wearing a painting, the colorful splotches look like paint to me.

Shoes: Borrowed from my sister purchased from Target for about $25. They are remarkably comfortable.

Today I was inspired by Adele and Michelle Obama. I also saw my tailor today, so new designs are on the way!

The CW50 sponsored the first Washington D.C. Fashion Beauty Lifestyle Expo on Saturday, October 10th, 2009, at the Grand Hyatt Washington. Tashia Senn was one of the featured local designers, including fashion show and booth exhibit.

Tashia (pronounced Tay-sha) Senn is petite, soft-spoken, sweet, and a women of very few words, however the pieces in her collection speak loudly and demand your attention. I perused many of her well-tailored pieces from the Spring Summer 2010 collection. It took a little while to chat with her due to the buzzing booth activity of expo attendees waiting to meet her.

The CW50 sponsored the first Washington D.C. Fashion Beauty Lifestyle Expo on Saturday, Oct 10th, 2009, at the Grand Hyatt Washington. Greg Taylor, of Walish Gooshe, was one of the featured local designers, including fashion show and booth exhibit.

Greg Taylor intuitively knew what his clothing line, Walish Gooshe, was all about. Supposedly Walish Gooshe means sophisticated and classy in some language! We will have to get the translator to verify :o) but the clothing definitely brings these words to mine. The pieces I saw created images of easy breezy, bright summer days being enjoyed by a group of female friends, sipping wine and sharing intimate stories about their families and careers while looking effortlessly chic.

I am not alone in my belief. The belief: Women of substance can also be women of material style, without apology.

I believe there exists a prevailing stereotype that a smart woman can not and should not be a stylish woman. Females in hard sciences are expected to be intellectually savvy and fashionably ignorant. Wrinkled clothing, sweat pants, ill-fitting clothing are welcome and may even boost your perceived intellectual ability. Ladies holding positions of power or influence requiring great mental capacity are expected to minimize any indications , whether in the political, corporate, or academic worlds, of actually loving and being fluent in the style world.

Not everyone thinks this way, but I am sure there are many who do. A sexy, smart, stylish woman will never sacrifice substance over style but can always mix the two effortlessly.

I was in Atlanta this past weekend to attend a graduation ceremony and returned home a little under the weather. While I was there, I took a pic of two of my sexy,smart, stylish partners in style on their way out to participate in graduation celebrations.

Beautifully designed clothes are works of art to me, and in this economy, I am mostly looking and appreciating in lieu of purchasing (Sigh!) Sunday’s amazing weather made it easy to venture out in search of artistic wearable treasures to ogle and coo over. Luckily for me, Artistic Aya , a line designed by Dana Ayanna Greaves based out of Washington, D.C. provided the fashion portion of an event sponsored by The Dunes, LLC. Twenty dollars for an affair including a 90 minute open bar, live band, fashion show, and charitable donation to the Pediatric AIDS/HIV Care organization, held at the Left Bank in the historic Adams-Morgan neighborhood, suited my budget perfectly.

Artistic Aya rewarded the attendees by presenting, unique, beautiful, and intricately designed tops, dresses, skirts, and jewelry in an inviting, open, and unpretentious setting. Models continually walked the runway and mingled with the attendees.

After sipping on a mimosa, I got a chance to speak with the designer and the atmosphere mirrored her ever so warm and welcoming personality. If you follow the Washington D.C. Art and Style Scene, it would be hard not to notice several heavy hitters in attendance, Rachel Cothran of Project Beltway (who also walked the runway) and Phillipa Hughes of the Pink Line Project. It is nice to see them out supporting such a great local artist; Dana’s pieces are truly works of art.

If you can afford a statement piece for your wardrobe, definitely check out this designer.
If you can not afford to purchase, attend another event like this one! Check out the Greater Fashion Washington Chamber of Commerce as a resource.

The start date of Spring has officially come and gone. The spring weather has not yet arrived.

To get a dose of spring, I visited Washington D.C.'s National Museum of Natural History's Butterfly Pavilion with some of my family. There is nothing like a pavilion filled with fluttering spectrum of color flitting through the air to inspire looks for warmer weather.

Topshop, the british chain store comparable to H & M and ZARA with a lot more edge, opened it's doors to US patrons in NY on April 2nd, 2009. This department store is all the rage across the pond! They have been trying to do business here since 2007 and have been plagued with little things like fires and obtaining the correct permits for building and construction!

Their doors are now open, amid fanfare, parties, $5-$500 gift card give aways, and an appearance by Kate Moss who designs a line for the store . NY is only a 3-4 hour drive away from the DMV (DC,Maryland, VA). If you have the funds, this might be worth a look!

I am still in love with Cobalt Blue and use this color to accent my neutral browns and grays. I think I am drawn to this color because I remember it as electric blue. Since I pursued a career in electrical engineering, I have the "electronic" connection to the blue hue!

So when I saw this wooden ring at the Profile booth at Crystal Couture, I had to have it!They also solved another problem for me. Sometimes, like while grocery shopping, I just need to carry the phone, the debit card, and the grocery list and I don't want to carry a purse. Now I can just attach this modern pouch to my belt loops and go!

How can I grow my wardrobe with little to no money? Hmmm...I would have to think back, before the onset of the "greenback" as the dominant form of US currency with actual value and return to the barter system, simply trading goods or services.

"Andy" was kind enough to inform me of www.bigwardrobe.com, a clothes swapping website based in the UK, and there is a similar site based in the US, www. swapstyle.com. Members can create wardrobes and swap clothing,shoes, and accesories with other members. Membership is usually free. In this econonmy, this a great way to add to the wardrobe while subtracting little from your wallet.

If you want to keep it more personal, you can form your own clothes swapping party and make a night of it. I may be hosting one soon!

My Harem Inspired Pantsuit

I actually got to have some fun this weekend! Clear roads, minimal ice, on the sidewalks (except for a few residents who didn't get around to clearing their portion of the sidewalk...tsk! tsk!),and not so freezing cold weather made me brave the elements in search of Washington night life. On Friday, I spent the late evening at The Park. I am not big on night clubs but I am ALWAYS interested in wine and spirits, a diverse mix of music, a diverse mix of folks, and seeing how the D.C. Metro area gets dressed for their nights out on the town. I had a LOVELY time!!!!!!!!!!

The D.C. Metro area residents are completely stylish but sometimes we are a little shy about being fashion forward, setting trends, and creating our own signature stamp on trends. We are in or around the very conservative Capitol Hill, however..in the after, after hours we can let our hair down, spike it up, and take some fashion risks!

In that vein, here is my take on harem pants. My mom has tons of great fabric that gets sent to her from all over the world. I chose this fabric from her inventory, drew up a sketch, chatted with my tailor and came up with this as my 1st pantsuit design in early Fall 2008...

DC Fashion Week is a weeklong event that highlights fashion design, clothing merchandising and modeling as well as enhances the visibility of the nation’s capital as a center of international fashion. DC Fashion Week produces runway events twice a year (February/September) at multiple venues throughout Washington, DC.

This DC Fashion Week event will feature designers from Cote d'Ivoire, Hungary, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Mongolia, Mozambique, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and the United States. Hello friends! I just celebrated my birthday with a trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to spend time with three dear friends. Philly is know as the city of brotherly love. The vibe permeating through the air was more like gritty politeness.

The love I experienced came from my host and hostess Mr. and Mrs. Kirby and my girl, the MAC. After my birthday gift massage put me at ease (Thanks DK!) I got a chance to visit the Buffalo Exchange (1713 Chestnut Street Philadelphia, PA 19103) and do a little shopping!

Buffalo Exchange sells new clothing and gently used clothing brought in by patrons for cash. Customers may also trade for merchandise. The company prides itself on doing right by the environment. The staff was SUPER friendly and the merchandise on hand was worth the visit.

Alexnader Mcqueen will be designing a line for Target to hit stores in March 2009!

Target in March will launch Designer Collaborations, which is aimed to be an ongoing program that will bring a series of established designers to the masses at low prices. Designer Collaborations is a separate program from Target’s Go International, which focuses on young or emerging designers and, in the past, has featured names such as Proenza Schouler, Luella Bartley, Behnaz Sarafpour, Rogan and Richard Chai. Industry sources have estimated that Go International does more than $100 million in annual sales.

The launch collaboration will be with Alexander McQueen, who will create a version of his McQ collection, called McQ Alexander McQueen for Target.

Intellifit is not brand new but it is definitley noteworthy!I can't wait until it reaches the masses!!!! I have been dreaming of a tool like this to determine that my clothes fit perfectly, without having to try them on. Every mall should have this so you can go in, get your measurements, take them with you, and shop on-line at your leisure. Moms can shop peacefully! All retailers need to get on board.

Hello Everyone!!! Why I am so cheerful? I enjoyed a productive and fun week, in the world of shopping and art.

Last Friday (9/5/08), I spent the evening at Artmosphere, in Washington, D.C. spending time with a dear friend before her year long trek to Montana of all places! I love her so I will be visiting:o) Anyway, the ambiance of the Artmosphere cafe lulls you into pleasant relaxation, with warm colors, smooth tunes and funky yet charming decorations. The African jazz group, Black Notes, performed for our listening pleasure.

After the performance, I spotted a chic female (short blond hair,original African inspired outfit) and had to take her picture.....

On Tuesday (9/9/08), another good friend and I made our way to the District Sample Sale held in Washington D.C. at the Galleria at Lafayette Square. Grrr....shopping on a budget. If I were rich, I would banish the word, but I'm not so I embrace B-U-D-G-E-T tightly, as if he were my lover who had been away, overseas, at war for 8 months returning to my wide open arms. (Big Smile:o)

Budget and I went shopping and he was very strict about our locations. He demanded more bang for his buck, so where did we go? Current Boutique and Yesterday Rose Thrift Store.

We hopped in the car on Sunday, woefully regarding the gas tank,but determined to be efficient(for the Earth and my budget, doing all my errands at once)and headed down 395 off to Wilson Blvd in Clarendon,VA. Sunday visit makes the parking in Clarendon soooo effortless.

Current Boutique made me feel like I was in a dainty and quaint boutique even though it was a consignment shop. Everything is neatly organized, no dust, lots of variety and all articles of clothing,jewelry, and handbags were in pretty good condition. They strive to have their inventory no older than 2 years. The two attendants were polite and friendly. It is a consignment shop so the prices range from about $10 for GAP,Old Navy,H&M Urban Outfitters, to up to $140 for a Diane Von Furstenburg Dress. They had a back wall of designer jeans, including 7 for all Mankind Jeans. They also had some unique faux snakeskin purses, new not used, in interesting colors and mixes. One with a purple and gray palette and zippers stood out to me, but that will be a purchase to make when Budget will not be disturbed,at a price tag of about $50. (I will be going back for that one).

What I did purchase was a Kimchi and Blue (Urban Outfitters Line) lace-like,mid thigh length skirt with velvet trim for $20.00.

I already had these velvet Tahari shoes(Marshall's $10) to go with it.

Our next location was Yesterday Rose Thrift Store in Fairfax,Virginia. Now this is a real thrift store run by cheerful but strict elderly ladies. They will dish out the love but don't try to pull one over on them and it's best you mind your children's behavior or they will call you out. I love this store. It is dusty,not sorted by type, sometimes by size and Sunday's special was 50% off everything. Budget was Ecstatic!!!! So what did I find....

After all that romping around with BUDGET we continued our date by visiting my parents home for dinner (instead of dining out) and going to the grocery store for grocery shopping, ending the day on a happy note.

U St. stroll continued....

Hard wood floors and an open layout made me feel oh so lux bohemian in Profile:o) Profile is a boutique located in NW D.C.(2003 11th St., NW Washington D.C. 20001), no website available. There is absolutely no clutter and they feature truly hard to find designers in the DC Metro Area. They have a very selective choice of merchandise. I visited both the upstairs level, just for women, and the downstairs level, just for men. I spent most of my time upstairs and guess what I found....

I found Antik denim jeans for $99 (alas, I have a very long inseam so no go for me). Ladies, I tried HARD do make it work. I also spied a dress from Carmim, a black slinky open back mid-thigh length number that I could see wearing with the 4 inch heels only, jeans and moderate heels, or the killer black leather high heeled boots.
Watch out... Just toooooo Hot!!

The absolute best part of the visit was the warm,friendly greeting and the continued warm and freindly assistance provided to me which was completely unexpected.

This is an elegant store with warmth...hard to find these days. So, if you are like me and on a budget this is the time to shop Profile, high-end unique selection & great prices (catch the after Dog Day sales while it lasts).

Last Friday, I hopped on the Green Line Metro for a leisurely stroll along historic U St. NW in Washington, D.C. I donned my off-white Michael Kors denim cargo jeans (that smooth and lift in all the right places) and my Coach shades (light tint, invisible frames) in search of after Dog Day savings deals at two boutiques: 4NXC and Profiles.

When you walk into 4NXC you step into a world of warm, funky, inviting colors. It’s small and cozy while still feeling spacious. The manager on duty was politely friendly and continued to check in with me during my shopping. The grand opening was Oct 2nd, 2007. I was not permitted to take photos but the website has images of the store.

They have a pretty large and interesting selection of dresses, tops, and handbags. The after dog day deals are great, with $10 racks (clothes and handbags) and 25%, 35%, and 50% off deals. The sale is still on but it won’t last long!

I would describe their clothing style, current stock, as young, funky, but not outrageous. This is a good source for stocking up on the weekend wardrobe…you know when you want a put- together urban look for a Saturday of meeting friends for coffee, shopping and a casual day party (like a birthday lunch). Your outfit will definitely be unique in a good way!

I made a conservative purchase of $31 high-waisted jeans shorts (to show off the legs while summer is still here) and a $10 tank top, great deals.

I’ll definitely be checking out this spot throughout the year and I would be willing to pay full price for the selection they are offering.

Africa Rising: 3rd Annual THISDAY Music and Fashion Festival was held on Friday, August 1st, at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.

The event was directed by THISDAY's Editor-in-Chief, Nduka Obaigben. Musicians (Jay-Z , Rihanna, John Legend) met African fashion designers,(i.e. Oswald Boateng, Deola Sagoe). Top models, who strutted ther stuff, included Tyson Beckford and Alek Wek.

Ticket prices ranged from $45.00 - $400.00.

Bikini or Bust, on TLC (The Learning Channel) documents the story of hand-knit bikini designer, Ashley Paige, attempting to turn her works of art into financial success. Ashley's artistic talent, wonderful; Ashley's financial savvy......NEEDS WORK! Don't get me wrong, she comes off as a hard working, lovable, cute, quirky, spiritual and amazingly talented woman. I find myself rooting for, yet I am exasperated by her inherent lack of business savvy. To her credit, the show is documenting her journey of turning clothes into currency.

What am I learning? Excellent strategies on how to market my line of clothing, Jahji Designs, and how to avoid her pitfalls and missteps.

I hope she makes it to $$$. I know I will :o)

I was lucky enough to attend an event that celebrated local artists in the D.C. metro area. I was immersed in the air of creativity, positive energy, and artistic free flow! Artomatic has been held since 1999 in Washington D.C. . I attended for the first time on Saturday June 14th, 2008. I traveled to Nana, a women's wear boutique, located in Washington D.C., at the suggestion of a very good friend:o)

Upon my arrival, I was warmly greeted by a very friendly retail associate. The store is cozy and bright with minimal adornment allowing emphasis on the 3 to 5 racks of select clothing including mostly current season dresses,a few retro/vintage items, a few jeans, belts and hats, and a glass display case of jewelry: small, dainty, pretty stones that would accent the dresses perfectly. If you want a very feminine, flirty, but still modern dress appropriate for meeting your boyfriend's mother, this will fit the bill.

Prices, when I visited, ranged from between $100 - $250 for non-sale items and between $75- $100 on the sale rack.

Sweat

The act of sweating is like a dirty little secret, we all do it but we don't want anyone to see us do it. It's only socially acceptable during vigorous physical activity.

Unfortunately, I have been blessed with hyperactive sweat glands in the underarm area. (Question to self: Am I sharing too much? Answer to self: The truth shall set you free!)

IF THIS IS AN UNPLEASANT TOPIC FOR YOU, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER.

Maybe some of you share this exact same problem. If you do and have working solutions, please let me know by leaving a comment!!!

Yesterday, in the DC Metropolitan area, the temperature reached over 85 degrees. Now don't get me wrong, I love summer weather, the hotter and more humid the better. My hyperactive sweat glands love summer also. They show their appreciation by becoming even more active.

Some things I have tried are:
Score: 1-Shouldn't have bothered, 10-Problem Solved!

Antiperspirant Only: Score 5
This prevents immediate sweating, but any little thing that upsets the balance (rushing down the hall, slight temp change, slight nervousness) and everything is thrown off balance and the antiperspirant fails (Note: Antiperspirant reduces wetness/sweating, deodorant just provides a scent to disguise odors)

Antiperspirant + short-sleeved cotton undershirt: Score 8
This works pretty well as long as the apparel allows for wearing a cotton undershirt. Since, I'm a female who enjoys clothing, I have many tops that do not allow for this option.

Clinical Strength Antiperspirant: Score 7

I have recently tried Secret Clinical Strength. You apply it before bedtime, then wear your regular antiperspirant during the day. For more info on how it works visit http://www.secret.com/ClinicalStrength.do I do notice an improvement but for me, it still does not work for the full 24 hours. It usually fails in the early afternoon.

I am considering trying:
Underarm Dress Shields: These are thin disposable pads with adhesives, worn between you and your clothing. They also provide undergarments with dress shields as an option.

Last and definitely least favorite and most daunting:

"Excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, is a relatively common problem affecting millions of American men and women," says Manhattan dermatologist Doris Day.

"With Botox treatments of the underarms or hands, sweating stops or is greatly reduced within a few days, and the effects last for six months to a year," Day says. The side effects are few to none, and can include mild temporary weakness of the hand, which might make it more difficult to open a tight jar, but would not affect typing or other fine motor skills.

"Patients have told me that I have changed their life with this treatment," she adds.

While normal sweating is due to heat, excessive sweating is caused by brain activity that tells your underarms or hands to sweat. And blocking the sweat glands under your arms is not harmful. Getting Ready for Spring

It's been a while since I posted but it was for a good reason...Spring cleaning! Although springlike weather has not yet emerged I decided to clean out and clean up my closet anyway.

I am NOT a huge fan of organizing but it gives me a chance to go through my wardrobe, see what fits, and see what I need to add....and this leads to what I love most, SHOPPING!!!!!!

So what's on my need list.......
1. White cotton shirts---I only had two and you can never have too many of these. I think Marshall's is a good place to stock up on them (price ranges $12.99 - $39.99) , reasonable prices and large variety of styles

2. Vests--Black, white, blue,leather and a great place to find them inexpensively is at your local thrift stores, check out the women's and men's sections ($3.00 - $10.00). I purchased my favorite vest for $3.00 from a Value Village thrift store.

3. High waisted, wide leg denim jean trousers--I love high waisted pants because no one has to be subjected to the infamous "crack" accidentally or intentionally AND they can be worn to show off the high waist or as regular jeans.

Basically, numerous local boutiques get together under one roof, The Galleria at Lafayette Center, offer you great deals on selected merchandise, all while you snack on Hor'dourves, drink to your heart's content and shop to your heart's content:o) Regular admission is $50 but it all goes to charity, Martha's Table Summer Camp.There are no dressing rooms so it's best to wear something like leggings and a cami to make it easy to try on clothes.

The best deal of the night occurred when My Sister's Closet discounted everything on the racks to $20.00 fifteen minutes before Close of business!

One of the best style accomplishments one can achieve is to look great and have the perfectly appropriate attire for your event.

Think about how many types of events their can be: daytime home wedding, summertime business interview, happy hour with your married friends, happy hour with your single friends, first meeting with the boyfriend's parents, lunch with the boss, and what if you just want to look effortlessly chic?

Here are a few simple general rules...

1) A home (event at someone's residence) and/or daytime event is more conservative and less formal then an "out" and evening one.

2) If you are not comfortable in the clothes, this is definitely not the right outfit. (WARNING: THIS DOES NOT MEAN ALL YOUR APPAREL SHOULD FEEL LIKE A BLANKET! THIS MEANS YOUR CLOTHES SHOULD FIT YOUR UNIQUE BODY CORRECTLY!No pulling, no tugging.)

"Icicle" Ornament from CB2

The holiday season is upon us, and so are the holiday decorations.

I found these lightweight glass Icicle ornaments from CB2 (Crate and Barrel 2). They are a steal at $1.95 per icicle! (You do have to pay for shipping and handling). They are 7 in long, the width of a "pinky" fingernail at the thinnest part, and about 1 in at the center.

I ordered 15 of them. I am going to hang them from my living room ceiling at various heights.

I am sitting here watching re-runs of "What Not to Wear", one of my absolute favorite shows, pondering ......what are the basics a woman needs to achieve great style?

1) Healthy Hair, Great Cut/Length-This is not an easy task. This is a trial and error process. First of all you have to deal with the reality that is your hair type, then you have to find a style that works for your face and your lifestyle. Finally, last but not least, you have to find a hair stylist who can achieve the look and is willing to take the journey with you. DO NOT SETTLE.

2)The Right Undergarments-This means the right bra (correct fit) and the right "undies". Lay a proper foundation!

3)Dark Wide Leg/Boot Leg Trouser Jean-I love these jeans because you can dress them up (heels and a jacket) or dress them down (ballet flats and a t-shirt). Width of leg opening depends on body type.

4) Classic Wide Leg/Boot Leg Black Slacks-This is a must, just like the black dress. You can just do so much with it. Width of leg opening depends on body type.

5)Camis -Black, White, Brown, Gray at the very least. Over time you can add more colors and styles, like lace and a little sparkle. They are usually inexpensive and great for covering up that little bit of cleavage when you don't need it to show.

6) White Collar Shirt-This is another basic that never hurt anyone and you can get a lot of mileage out of it. I think you should have at least 3. (if you're like me and not fan of laundry, when one is dirty, you have another)

7)Classic Black Dress-One can never go wrong with the simple black dress, what more can I say? You can do a million different things with it! Cover up with a jacket, boots, pumps, shawl, wrap, add bold accessories, stay classic with pearls..........

8)Classic Neutral Color Dress-I think everyone should have a solid "other color than black" dress,(chocolate brown, heather gray,summer white, winter white, dark grey). Sometimes you just don't feel like wearing black, and you don't have to!

9)The Suit-Dark Gray, Black, with or without pinstripes, natural materials. Again, CLASSIC. Leave the trends for the accessories and shoes.

10)Classic Coats-preferably trench style or A-line, one for for spring/fall (tan, cream) and one for fall/winter (camel, black, earth tones).

11)High Heeled Pump (You determine heel height)-And you must have black and red. Black shoe as your workhorse, red to add the sexy to the smart and stylish outfit!!!!!

12)"Diamond"(or Cubic Zirconia) Stud Earrings-I haven't encountered an occasion where these can't be worn. Have you?

13)Leather (Faux or Real) Shoulder Bags-Brown and Black, NO TRENDY EMBELLISHMENTS, CLASSIC, CLASSIC, CLASSIC. Start from here and build your handbag inventory :o)

14) Elegant Clutch- The dress-up purse! Here you can have some fun, bold color, a little shimmer, a little gold, a little silver.

What is the world coming to .... a model-less fashion show?!?!? The Target Model-less Fashion Show took place on Tuesday, November 6, and Wednesday, November 7, in Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Terminal on E. 42nd Street between Park and Lexington Avenues in New York's Grand Central Terminal. Featured designers included bridal and maternity collections from Bowie by Keanan Duffty for Target, Erin Fetherston for Target, Isaac Mizrahi for Target, Liz Lange for Target and Mossimo for Target as well as jewelry, handbags and shoes from Dominique Cohen for Target and HOLLYWOULD for Target.

High definition holograms are used instead of human beings. The technology, Eyeliner, is Powered by hologram innovator Musion Systems Limited, a company based in London. The technology can be used alongside real human beings also. It provides awesomely realistic "3-D" images with no audience props needed (i.e. 3-D glasses).

Models beware, are you going to have to compete with technology for the runway jobs?!?!?!

Today, my office mate/friend/colleague had a visitor, her fiance.:o) A PH. D. and a great example of subtle yet significant style.

The leather Fossil watch (a gift from the future in-laws) , the Urban Outfitters belt (custom personalized with a little sandpaper to the buckle.... and finally the argyle socks paired with the classic Bass shoes.

Classic Men's Business Casual Shoes

Today, I saw a wonderful pair of what I would consider classic business casual shoes for men.

Shoe Model: A Fellow Engineer ! (some of us "nerds" have the style gene, nice jeans too!)

These are not brand new shoes, more like 1-2 years in age but they LOOKED brand new. The secret is mositurizing the shoe. As it was put to me, leather is skin so treat as such. (There is the "nerd"coming out :o)I believe the price paid was approximately $50. I love Cole Haan shoes but they are a little pricey for me,$150 - $200, so the Off Brodway price is a great one, especailly for a timeless shoe.

I have never been to Off Broadway Shoes, however I will be checking it out this weekend!

As I sit here under the salon bonnet dryer watching Kim Possible (YES the Disney Channel cartoon! Don't laugh, Kim is a very smart and stylish cartoon character. She's too young to be sexy :o) many thoughts cross my mind.....

With all the recalls for products made in China and general counterfeit products, one wonders about the safety and authenticity of cosmetics, hair-care products, and skin-care products. I recommend being aware of these issues before you make any purchases. Many product websites like OPI (nail polish and nail care) and Sebastian (hair care products) list their "authorized" vendors.

Eyebrow waxing/shaping is a nice little relatively inexpensive detail to make you look complete.

Dress to complement the body shape you have now, not the body you had or hope to have.

Shop for your clothing using the budget you have now, smartest thing you can ever do! (If you don't have a budget, WRITE one out ASAP!)
